Monday, Monday. I have to be honest-this school year I’m really striving to be Marvelous In My Monday, but it is tough. This year is presenting more challenges than I had anticipated, and,as a result, I’ve joined the camp of “Oh, Monday again?”
But I’ve been reminding myself all day long that today is marvelous because I’m getting a bit of break from the normal routine this week. I’m taking off in just a little while to head to Oklahoma City for my annual Encyclomedia Conference. It’s always nice to be in the city for a few days, and this year they have some really great speakers lined up for the event so I’m eagerly anticipating it. Truth be told the idea that I only have to teach three days this week made getting out of bed a little bit easier this morning!
I’m sure most of us can agree that no matter how much we might love our jobs, the weekend is definitely the best part of the week, right? I wholeheartedly believe it so let me tell you about mine!
Friday night John and I were both pretty exhausted. I think it was a combination of a very long week and not having fully recovered from last weekend. Whatever it was, we were worn out and ready for a uneventful evening. We ate dinner, took Max for a long walk around the neighborhood, and fell asleep pretty early with the knowledge that we didn’t have an early wake up call the next day. It was glorious!
John did have some fire department business Saturday morning so I decided to get my workout in for the day. In my continuing effort to spend more time running outside instead of relying on the treadmill, I headed out to a local trail. I had intended to just do two or three miles, but, as I ran, I noticed that my legs felt great and I just kept going. I ended up doing five miles in 53:23 which is my longest run to date. I was pretty encouraged by how good it felt, and it gave me confidence that I might could conquer longer distances in the future.
John and I headed to Ft. Smith mid-afternoon to run a few errands and do a little shopping. We found ourselves in Dick’s Sporting Goods where John, of course, had to show off his superior strength.
And I, of course, made him do it one more time so I could snap a picture!
After witnessing his feat of strength, we stopped by two different furniture stores to check a few things out. John is actually a really talented carpenter, and he’s planning on building a few pieces for the house so we wanted to get some ideas.
We also made a huge mistake buying our current couches. I hate them with a fiery, burning passion, and I think we’ve both decided it’s about time to replace them. I’m not sure exactly what I want, but the fabric is so key for me. I really liked this set.
But I also saw a dozen more I liked so the possibilities have not been narrowed down quite yet! We had our fill of furniture shopping, so we made our way to our favorite Italian restaurant in town for an early dinner.
I’ve been craving Italian food, and this place is as good as it gets in our part of the world. After dinner it was time to head to Jedd and Whitney’s house for the evening where we stayed up way too late hanging out and enjoying their new hot tub!
Sunday was a lazy day for us since apparently we can’t handle going to bed at two in the morning quite like we use to. It was a dreary day and perfect to just laze around and enjoy ourselves, and that is exactly what we did. It was great bookend to an uneventful but fun weekend!
Now it’s time for me to grab my suitcase and hit the road. Have a great evening!
What did you do this weekend? What food have you been craving?
