Day One!

It’s my first official day of summer break!  I’ve spent the day doing all kinds of exciting things like cleaning the house and grocery shopping.  Not to worry-I’m getting all of the not so fun things out of the way so I can concentrate on having some fun the rest of the week!  I have to make a small correction about something I said last week.  On Thursday I mentioned that John and I were gearing up for a quick trip to Colorado in two weeks.  Well, guess what?  Apparently, reading calendars is not a great skill of mine.  We’re actually going to be there next week!  We’re heading out on Friday for several days, and I am so excited.  You know it’s my favorite place on earth, and I can’t wait to spend a few days soaking up the mountains.

But that’s this coming weekend.  Let’s talk about the one that just happened!  John and I headed home to my mom’s on Friday night for a very special occasion.  My step-dad Joel graduated from college on Saturday, and we were on hand to celebrate!  The ceremony was held Saturday morning, and after a few quick pictures we all piled in the cars to get on with the really exciting part of the day.

A few months ago, we discovered an awesome Latin restaurant in Dallas called Gloria’s.  We’ve all become obsessed with it, and Joel tried to convinced all of us to skip the graduation ceremony and get right to lunch.  Unfortunately for him, we didn’t go for it!  By the time we were seated, we were all starving and dove right into chips and salsa and the most amazing bean dip I’ve ever had.  I ate more than my fair share, but I still had room to devour my entrée.

Yes, it was just as delicious as it looks.  I’m already looking forward to my next trip!  After we stuffed ourselves silly, we spent the rest of the day hitting some of our favorite spots in Dallas.

Of course I had to stock up on a few things at Whole Foods.  If one of these ever opens up within a fifty mile radius of me, I am in serious trouble.  The Dallas day also included not one but two stops at REI where Caite and I couldn’t resist modeling a little bit.

We made a full day of it, and by the time we got back to Mom’s Saturday night, we were exhausted.

Sunday included lunch with my dad and grandparents, and we had a great time catching up for a few hours before John and I had to head back to Poteau.  It was a weekend full of family and good food which are always the best kind!

Now it’s time to get to the highlight of my Mondays.  I love answering Friend Makin’ Monday questions, and I hope you all enjoy learning a little more about me.  Here we go!

1.  Have you ever been skinny dipping?

Yes, actually, and more than once :)

2.  If you could choose an exotic vacation destination today, where would you go?

I’d probably pick something like Greece or Egypt.

3.  Do you prefer to live in the city or the suburbs?

I think I’m a mid-size city kind of girl.  I would never survive in a big city, but I do like the conveniences of it!

4.  If you could paint, draw or illustrate any masterpiece in the world, what would it be?

I would create a masterpiece of my beloved Colorado Rockies.  That way I’d have them with me all the time!

5.  What is your favorite dish to cook when you’re cooking for one?

I usually always go with an omelet.  It’s easy to make breakfast foods into a single serving.

6.  Who has recently influenced you in a spectacular way?

I find my influences from books all the time.  I read a lot of non-fiction, and many times the adventures I find in certain people’s stories inspire me to try all kinds of new things.

7.  Have you ever considered dating a person who’s younger than you?  If so, how young would you go?

Well, when I was dating I didn’t usually date people younger than me, but I wouldn’t have been opposed to it.  I think it depends on the person.

8.  What do you typically wear when you’re at home with no plans to go out?

Yoga pants or athletic shorts and a hoodie.  It’s my uniform!

9.  Do you prefer a shower or a bath?

I definitely prefer showers.  I really don’t get baths.

10.  When you meet strangers are you outgoing or more introverted?

I am severely introverted.  Sometimes I think I have diagnosable social anxiety!

Alright, folks, it’s time to finish up a few chores and then get my Insanity on.  See you tomorrow!

Are you outgoing or introverted?  What was your favorite thing about the weekend?

I should really jump onto the friend makin’ Monday bandwagon – love learning these little tidbits of info.

Also, I like hearing that you are very shy, but also seem like a fantastic teacher! I’m also shy, and considering going back to school for teaching, and I think I could be a good teacher but am worried that people will be raising their eyebrows and doubting me… so it’s cool to see you pulling it off so well :)!

On another note. it sounds like you would recommend insanity? I’m seriously considering ordering it and joining a 60 day challenge.

Aaand lastly, sorry I haven’t gotten back to you re freelance writing. I don’t have a lot of super insightful info from my husband. First, it’s a matter of figuring out who to send you ideas too, and this isn’t always easy. You’re a lot more likely to just not get a response than to get a helpful response directing you to the right person, so it becomes a matter of perseverance. Once you have the right person, typically you send ‘queries’, so short (one-pagers) pieces trying to sell your idea. If your idea is accepted, then you proceed with writing the whole piece. However, when you’re getting started you might need to try sending in an entire story rather than a query, so they have a better idea of your work.

    Hope that helps a bit!

Congrats to your step-dad!! I am the same way with Whole Foods. Our closest one is 45 minutes away so anytime I pass one I stop.

I loved your questions and answers that I linked up too. :) I think I am too introverted to skinny dip 😛 Maybe one day!

Well, I only ever did it with very, very close friends. I’m much too introverted to do it in any other situation! In fact, I think I’ve gotten worse as I’ve gotten older. I probably wouldn’t do it at all now!

that’s so amazing for your step-dad! big congratulations to him =)
i love your “uniform” – funny we have the same one (actually, we have the same job minus the fact that I don’t have summers off…but I prefer the yoga pants uniform)

I love the friend making questions! My boyfriend is 4 months younger than me. He is really tall and I thought he was older when we started dating but its not really a big difference at all. we have the same in house uniform :) and question 10, I agree with you 100% I so wish I was able to be more outgoing.

  5. Christine

Congrats on your summer break! I’m on the quarter system so I still have 3 weeks to go (ugh!). Colorado is going to be so much fun! Haha I’m the same with calendars and dates. Your food looks so good by the way 😉

  6. Diane @ Life of Di.

I would definitely say that I am an outgoing person :) It’s weird though because there are few instances when I am quieter- usually this is in a classroom type setting. Again though, with strangers I would say I am extroverted. I just love to chat :)

Once again: we are the same person! REI and WF. Yup- that’s me! (And I just discovered that there’s an REI about 5 minutes from my house… oh no!! or oh yes…)
I can’t believe that you are done school already- we never got out until mid June! Oh man, as a teacher I LIVED for summer break!!
I live in a hoodie (or wifebeater) and yoga pants too. When I wear pants that zip or button, that’s what I call “dressing up!”
Keep me posted on your CO details- I want to see you!
