Yoga Soulmates

Good Sunday afternoon!  We’re still enjoying our perfect weather (I’m trying not to think about how great it would be to be on the trail!), and I think we may have to take Max out for an extended walk this afternoon.  Everything is definitely low-key around here this weekend!

So it’s time to give you all my final recap on the Yoga Challenge I participated in this month which was hosted by the wonderful Miss Courtney.  We still have a few days left in October, but since this was the last full week I decided to end mine today.

Good news!  I totally rocked this last week of the challenge.  I got three full sessions in which included an actual class!  The absolute best part of this week’s yoga, however, was I had a partner for two of my three sessions.

That’s right.  As I got ready to do Level One of Jillian’s Yoga Meltdown on Tuesday, John decided he wanted to join me.  I believe there was some trash talking beforehand about how he was going to kick my butt at yoga.  Let’s just say he was singing a different tune by the end of it.  That makes two of my family members Jillian has taken down during the course of this month!

He enjoyed it enough, however, to tag along to a real live yoga class Friday night.  Remember the secret plans I mentioned?  We were headed to yoga class!  I got online and did some searching on classes in Ft. Smith, and found one happening Friday evening at the Marvin Altman Fitness center so John and I decided to give it a try.  I loved it!  It was exactly how I pictured a yoga practice to be.  The instructor was great.  She was really helpful, but didn’t hover.  I’ve been in some exercise classes where the instructors correct every little thing which always makes me feel uncomfortable.

It was a hour long class that flew by.  I felt so relaxed and stretched out afterwards.  I told John we need to try to make a class after every big hiking trip!  I wish there was a way to make it part of my regular routine, but, with Ft. Smith 30 miles away, it’s just not feasible.  Hopefully, someone will start yoga classes in my little town soon!

My third session happened just a few moments ago.  I pulled how Rodney Yee, and did one of his twenty minute segments.  Yesterday, I did nine pretty intense miles on the treadmill, so it felt really good to stretch out today.  On a side note, between the class Friday night and this session with Rodney Yee, I’ve discovered that I love doing tree pose.  I’ve added it to my favorites list along with camel pose!

So that ends October’s Yoga Challenge.  I really want to commit to making it a regular part of my exercise routine, but I probably won’t shoot for three sessions a week.  I crave more heart pumping exercises, but I could definitely see myself throwing in a few sun salutations just to stretch everything out!  I’ve already got another exercise challenge ready to go for November, and I’m really excited about this one.  I’ll tell you all about it later on in the week.  For now, the chores are done, the sun is shining, and I’m going to go enjoy the rest of the weekend!  Have a great one!

How did you do with yoga this month?  What are some of your exercise goals and challenges for the coming month?

Ahhh!! I can’t believe John joined you!! (And missed the start of deer season to do it ;) ? haha.) I’m so glad you got in your sessions this last week, I know how much you missed them the week prior. Here’s to continuing to enjoy your passions with someone about whom you’re passionate!! (I think that’s the gramatically correct form, but it sounds funky!)
Have a great trip tomorrow!! Get to bed early my dear! xo

Very nice Warrior I, John! ;) (I’m sure yours was good, too, Natalie!) That’s so exciting you went to yoga! I haven’t been to a class in a week, and I’m itching to practice within the next few days. Can’t wait to hear about your new fitness challenge–I am quite intrigued. :)

Aw that’s so fun that John decided to join in on the yoga fun! And hilarious that Jillian took him down! Haha seriously, never underestimate Jillian Michaels workouts, they will kick your butt. Great job on the yoga challenge, can’t wait to read about the next one up your sleeve!

Hahaha, I love that John joined you! He’s got great form…my boyfriend, on the other hand, is so hamstrung that I don’t think he could even do child’s pose. I guess he really needs some yoga in his life, huh?

Three full sessions is awesome! I’ve been skipping my usual Monday night yoga class….I needed a break from the teacher (not a huge fan), but I need to keep going. I tried to replace it with a class on Sundays, but I think I need the Mondayclass is more intense.

I was super excited about three sessions! I loved actually going to class, and have been thinking about how to go back as often as possible. Isn’t it amazing the difference a teacher makes? It always amazes me.

That is SO, SO awesome that John joined you on your yoga! There’s no way I could get Jay to do it…and if he did, he’d probably be trying to make me laugh the whole time :)
Great job on your challenge, Natalie!
